About the Tests – SAT/ACT Tutoring – SAT Subject Tests – PSAT
SAT/ACT Test Preparation:
Students who desire to attend most colleges are required to take the SAT exam or the ACT exam. Some students take both tests and submit their best scores. Kaplan Tutoring Services can help you reach your best score on either test. Improvement over PSAT and prior tests is almost always significant (for 98% of our students) and sometimes dramatic (increase of 300+ points). Whether you are an athlete who is being recruited by colleges, a student with learning differences, an excellent student who just does not test well on standardized tests, or an average student with unrealized potential, you will benefit greatly from the test prep KTS provides.
Additional information about private tutoring, test preparation, and Zoom tutoring appear below and throughout the website.
Parent Testimonials About KTS SAT/ACT Prep:
“The one-on-one attention given to my daughters made the world of difference. Mrs. Kaplan’s knowledge of their individual strengths and weaknesses was key to taking the ‘fear factor’ out of the test. The thorough evaluation of practice tests was also invaluable.” Classical High School Parent
“My daughter’s SAT scores jumped 230 points as a result of tutoring with Cindy Kaplan. Cindy knows how to engage a teen. She helps defuse test taking anxiety, and she breaks the tutoring down into manageable pieces so the student doesn’t feel overwhelmed. Best of all, the tutoring enhances the student’s grammar, vocabulary, writing, and math skills and teaches test taking strategies, leaving the student better prepared for college and beyond.” Providence Country Day Parent
“I wanted to thank you very much for helping my daughter to prepare for her exams. She feels that she got a lot more out of her sessions with you than with the SAT classes she took.” St. Mary’s Bay View Academy Parent
“We have been exceedingly pleased with our student’s KTS experience. Because of Skype technology, our child was able to continue working with the same wonderful tutor after he moved out of state. Such a supportive longitudinal relationship has been very beneficial–educationally and emotionally–and we are grateful to KTS for facilitating it.” Parent of a private high school student in Providence
“We cannot thank you enough for the help and confidence you provided.” Barrington High School Parent
SAT and ACT Test Formats:
SAT TOPICS:
- Beginning in March, 2024, the SAT became a digital exam, only offered on the computer; it became “adaptive,” whereby students take the same first half of the exam (Module 1) for both Reading/Writing and Math, but the second half of the exam (Module 2) for both Reading/Writing and Math is determined by how well the student performed on Module 1; those who performed well will take a harder version of Module 2 and those who performed less well will take an easier version of Module 2; harder questions will be worth more points
- Module 1 (Reading and Writing) will consist of 27 multiple choice questions (25 will count while 2 will be experimental for future tests); total time 32 minutes
- Module 1 (Math) will consist of 22 questions (20 will count while 2 will be experimental for future tests); 75% will be multiple choice while 25% will be student produced; calculators are permitted; total time 35 minutes
- Reading and Writing and Math Sections for Module 1 will be combined into one score (200-800 points)
- At this point, the computer will determine which Module 2 tests will be given to the student
- Module 2 (Reading and Writing) will be identical in format to Module 1, but some students will have easier questions, while others will have harder questions
- Module 2 (Math) will be identical in format to Module 1, but some students will have easier questions, while others will have harder questions
- Reading and Writing and Math Sections for Module 2 will be combined into one score (200-800 points)
Scoring: Final score is the total of Reading/Writing and Math sections of both modules (maximum of 1600 points)
ACT TOPICS:
- English Section (45 minutes)
- Mathematics Section (60 minutes)
- Reading Section (35 minutes)
- Science Section (35 minutes)
